Our state faces many issues that are damaging for our community, education being at the forefront. Solutions are what needed at the Capitol and can only be accomplished by putting political agendas to the side and come to an agreement. The welfare of Arizona's residents, especially my legislative district should always be priority.
During the legislative session, I lead some of the conversations demanding a higher salary increase for our teachers. It is unconscionable that we expect our educators to teach 30-plus students, grade assignments, and have to deal with state standards that only grade the student on test scores and not the actual curriculum being taught. In legislative district 29, we pride ourselves for the culture that is instilled into our schools. However, the facilities in which they spend the majority of their days are deteriorating and falling to rubble. I will continue to fight for fair funding that will provide a high quality education that leads to the academic success of our students.
Anybody who has the courage to serve our nation and protect our freedoms deserves the utmost respect. In return for their service, we must ensure accessibility to the benefits that they have earned through their duty. Not only is it important that we continue to honor those we have lost but advocate for those who have served, currently serving, and future generations that will serve. It is my duty to listen, serve, and protect the rights of our veterans.
ECONOMIC & WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Growing up in Maryvale, I saw the corporations that once employed hundreds of individuals leave. On my first day in office, I picked up the phone and started the conversation of bringing economic opportunities to the district. Through great relationships that I built with the cities and chambers of commerce, I have prioritized the need of employment for the community. District 29 is filled with thousands of small businesses from construction to restaurants. Through the awareness that I have created to provide small businesses with the tools necessary to be successful, the Arizona Small Business Association awarded me with the "Small Business Champion of the Year" in 2017.
As elected officials, we must ensure that the citizens of the state have access to resources that will provide them a healthier lifestyle. This includes an affordable and accessible healthcare system for working families. I have fought for our children to have access to "Kids Care" without fearing of it going into a freeze as it did in the past. During the past couple of years, we have seen an increase in mental health issues. Currently, I sit on the board of Open Hearts Family Wellness, a non-profit resource to the community that aids in combating this disease.
